Hello friend.
Getting closer to the end of April.
This time I have something a little different to share with you.
Let’s have a go at it.
Main quest 🛡
You might think I’m curious to know what’s the best life insurance to get one for me or my parents.
But that doesn’t have anything to do with this week’s topic.
Besides the fact that I believe they’re no longer relevant. And that’s not just me, all my family does too.
What does work and is now more relevant than ever, is investing in you and your own skills.
That’s really the closest thing to a working insurance there is in these uncertain and fast-changing times.
And yet, so many people is still asleep to this fact.
They are waiting for the “bad times” to pass so that the “good times” can come and they can keep doing what they’ve always done with little disruption to their lifestyle and routines.
They’re depending on a boss, a family member, a politician, and so on for their own wellbeing.
Some of them also point out their fingers putting the blame in others or situations.
And all of this is not only useless. It’s actively counterproductive and detrimental.
This is not an argument between “fixed mindset” vs “growth mindset” in people.
I can picture several growth minded folks that fit the above description.
It is about flexibility, adaptability, and even antifragility if you want.
Learning fast through experience either to acquire new skills or to dust off existing ones it’s not about “being cool”, “becoming interesting”, or whatever other superficial reason.
It can pretty much be the difference between you struggling to keep up with change, feeling outdated/replaceable, or getting stuck in a career that will experience a similar fate like the dinosaurs.
I’ve seen that almost daily over the past months.
And when you boil it down to the most basic elements, it’s not a matter of having access to the best materials, the best network, plenty of resources, or whatever else.
It’s about taking a long hard look at our current situation, our environment, our network (or lack thereof) and, as some say, bite the bullet, take the leap, embrace the suck.
People let the confusion, overwhelm, and uncertainty get the best of them.
They feel incapable of moving in a different direction than the one they had for years.
They feel they’re already “too old” to do something different.
Or that they are “not smart enough” to pursue a different career.
Or that they’re “throwing away” all their progress in a particular path.
(The sunk cost fallacy is pretty real, you know)
All those excuses are just fear in disguise. They make sense. Like a completely valid justification.
And yet, they’re not.
Because for every group of people who use those, there is as well another group of people that have progressed despite those difficulties and even coming from a worse background.
This is what has always happened. Advantages don't make you successful per se. They help you get off the ground and achieve your goals faster than normal.
People who are hungry and driven will find a way and succeed despite the difficulties, obstacles, or shortcomings.
And if they get access to these advantages, whether extra resources, connections, and whatever else, they’ll be able to compress their time to target.
But you can give all those same advantages and even more to other type of people. And they will either waste them, complain they don’t have enough, get paralyzed due to fear, or find a way to screw up things and not get any results.
That’s just a sad reality that keeps happening and we all have to be aware and mindful. So that we don’t end up in that last group.
You can use Supercharged Learning to get pretty freaking good at anything, turn your life around, and make a positive change for others around you.
What you choose to use it for, it’s up to you. The decision is always yours.
And I not only hope that you choose wisely.
I’m here to help you do so. 🤝
Experiments 🧪
So after getting sick this week and then going back to my usual self on Friday, I thought about starting a experiment around health & fitness.
Kind of like going to the other end of the health spectrum.
That’s going to include an extra hour of sleep, bumping up the calories (especially the protein), and start using the creatine I received a week ago.
I can then incorporate some micro-workouts during the day and using “proper form” for work activities like I’ve talked about before.
A good timeframe for this is 30 days. So, around the end of next month you’ll hear me talking about the results. 😉
To consider 🤔
If you would find a way to become an “expert” in any skill/area you wanted, what would you try it with?
There you have it, my friend.
Just one week left before the month ends.
I hope you’ve enjoyed weekend so far.
Rest and recharge to take on the next week full on!
I’ll catch you next Sunday.
Cheers,
Juan.
I really like how you broke this down—it’s so true that investing in yourself is the most real kind of insurance we have today. It’s crazy how many people are still waiting for things to go back to “normal” instead of adapting.
