Curiously, I'm reading "Why We Sleep," and the author just talked about bi-phasic sleep (that now I'm considering myself) 😄 I didn't expect to see it at 6:30-7 pm, tho, but you gotta do what you gotta do, right?
I loved reading about your experiments and routines, Juan! 😁
Yes. Bi-phasic sleep is underrated. Dr. Michael Breus has a quiz to find out what's your chronotype. With that, you can better plan you sleep blocks.
And I honestly never thought about sleeping at 6:30 pm before this month. That sounded alien to me. But I had no choice. Turns out it hasn't been that bad/weird as it looked.
I honestly think a bi-phasic sleep pattern would work really well for me. I struggle to sleep on a night getting maybe 4 or 5 hours, then ideally I would have a 2 or 3 hour nap around 3pm when I get the most tired. Regardless of if I get that nap from around 5pm I'm wide awake 🤷♂️
Thanks for the comment, Mark. That is the main reason I post about my experiments, to encourage others to try alternatives.
Sounds like you're more the "night owl" type. In your case it would be better to shift your schedule to be more active during the evening.
When planning out your naps, remember that a 90-min block is a full sleep cycle. So, 2 cycles (3 hours) is better. And then you can complement that with a "core sleep" block of 4:30 - 5 hours to get enough Zzzz...
Unfortunately I don't really get a choice in the matter. My main "block" of sleep is dictated by whenever my brain allows me to fall asleep, but I have to be up between 6 and 7am to sort the kids out regardless.
I do shift work so that doesn't help either and usually means the 2nd phase of sleep doesn't happen.
Definitely a night owl though.
I'd really quite like to do a proper sleep study, where there was no pressure to satisfy anyone else's needs or work and see exactly what my body would do regarding sleep if given the chance.

Oh well, I'm a night owl, tired in the morning and at full power during the second half of the day, haha
Nice. You can experiment scheduling naps around the day and being fully "on" during the afternoon/evening.
